Privacy Policy
Toma ("Toma", "we", "us") is an iPhone app that writes short-video scripts with AI, shows them as a teleprompter under the camera and records your videos. This policy explains what data the app handles, why, and the choices you have. We designed Toma so that your videos stay on your iPhone.
Your videos and scripts
- Videos stay on your iPhone. Takes are recorded with your camera and microphone and saved in the app's storage on your device. We never upload your videos. If you turn on "Save takes to Photos", new takes are also added to your Photos library; Toma can add to your library but can't see the rest of it.
- Voice following runs on your iPhone. To move the script as you speak, Toma uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your voice is processed on the device and is not sent to us.
- Scripts are saved on your iPhone. The scripts you write or generate, and your templates, are stored in the app on your device.
- AI writing. Before the first AI request, Toma asks for your permission. When you ask the AI to write or rewrite a script, the topic and details you enter (and, for a rewrite, the script text) are sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes them to Anthropic Claude (an AI service by Anthropic) for scripts and opening lines, and to Google Gemini (an AI service by Google) for edits such as shortening or translating, and as a backup when Claude is unavailable. We use this text only to produce your result. We do not store it or log it, we do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising. You can turn AI off at any time in Settings › Language & AI.
Data we collect automatically
- App identifier for AI limits. AI requests carry a random app identifier (not your name, email or Apple Account) so our server can check your subscription and daily limits. Our server keeps only small counters (requests made today, free scripts used) under a one-way hash of this identifier. They contain no script text.
- App usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics): events such as finishing onboarding, recording a take or opening the subscription screen, plus device and app information (model, iOS version, language, app version, approximate country) and a random app instance identifier. Analytics never include your scripts or videos.
- App settings (Google Firebase Remote Config): Toma downloads its settings from Google, which receives a random installation identifier.
- Advertising attribution (Apple AdServices): if you installed Toma from an Apple Search Ads ad, Apple tells us which campaign, ad group and keyword led to the install, without identifying you. We use this to measure which ads work and to show you the most relevant first screens.
- Purchases (Apple, RevenueCat): Apple processes all payments; we never see your payment details. RevenueCat receives your purchase and subscription status with a random user identifier so the app can unlock Toma Pro.
Toma does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not sell your personal data.
Notifications
If you start a free trial, Toma schedules one local notification on your iPhone to remind you before the trial ends.
Service providers
We share data only with providers that help us run the app, and only for that purpose: Anthropic (Claude, for AI writing), Google (Firebase Analytics, Remote Config, Cloud Functions, Firestore and hosting; Gemini for AI writing), RevenueCat (subscriptions) and Apple (payments, attribution). Each processes data under its own privacy terms.
Retention and deletion
- Delete a take or a script in the app and it is removed from your iPhone. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device.
- Text sent for AI writing is processed to create your result and is not kept.
- Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months. You can ask us to delete the counters and data associated with your app identifier by emailing us.
Children
Toma is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.

We will update this page when our practices change and revise the date above.
